New one for the year at Shuart

28/5/12

A walk from Shuart to the railway line and back was all time could allow yesterday evening.

On the drive into Shuart there were two Corn Buntings on the wires. The walk didn't produce too much but did give us a new one for the year. Walking up the track we could hear Turtle Doves but couldn't find them but a short walk further up the track we stopped in the field and we saw a Turtle Dove fly past heading towards the farm, this is our first one of the year despite hearing them elsewhere. We walked up to the railway line and that produced Whitethroat, Chaffinch, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Reed Warbler, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Tufted Duck, Shelduck, Mallard, Herring Gull, Lesser Black Backed Gull and a Great Black Backed Gull. Near the farm on the way back I saw a Short-Eared Owl hunting, which is a good one to get at this time of the year.

Despite the brief visit it turned out to be quite good and it was home for a nice roast and Springwatch.
